This is the most popular option for many of our XioraTravel guests. If you are from one of the 54+ eligible countries (including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and most EU nations), you can enter China for up to 6 days (144 hours) without a visa.
The Requirements:
- You must have a valid passport (valid for at least 3 months).
- You must have a confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region (e.g., USA -> Beijing -> Thailand). You cannot simply fly USA -> Beijing -> USA.
- You must stay within the designated region (e.g., if you enter Beijing, you generally stay within the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area).
Perfect For: A quick “Golden Triangle” tour (Beijing or Shanghai) or a short business trip.
2. The Standard Tourist Visa (L Visa)
For those planning a deeper exploration—like our 10-day “Classic China” or “Yunnan Discovery” tours—you will need a standard Tourist (L) Visa.
The Process is Easier Now:
- Application: Most applications are now handled online via the COVA (China Online Visa Application) system.
- No Appointment Needed (In Some Regions): Many Chinese embassies have removed the appointment requirement, allowing walk-ins.

3. Unilateral Visa-Free Policy (Check Your Country)
China has recently expanded its unilateral visa-free policy.
